Brow Lift

FOREHEAD LIFT / BROW LIFT

Understanding the Surgery

A forehead or brow lift moves the eyebrows back to where they belong, at or above the bony orbit. The lift may also smooth the furrows in the forehead as well as reduce the drooping skin above the eyes. As a result of the surgery, the eyes appear more open, more rested and youthful.

Who Is A Candidate for Surgery?

The ideal candidate for a brow lift is someone who is looking for improvement in one or more of the following conditions:

.           sagging or lowered position of the brows.

.           deep creases across the forehead.

.           furrows between the brows and top of the nose.

Brow Lift Surgery

There are several procedures that can be used to elevate the brows and correct the changes that occur with aging of the forehead area. Selection of the procedure depends on the position of the brows, the height of the hairline and the amount of skin in the upper eyelids.

In some cases, an incision is made across the top of the scalp just behind or at the hairline. Excess skin can be removed, the brows can be lifted and the muscles that cause wrinkling and frown lines can be modified through this incision.

In other lift techniques, small incisions are made in the scalp, on the forehead or above the brow area. Instruments are inserted through these incisions and used to work on the internal structures of the forehead, lifting the brows.

Before Surgery

During consultation, Dr. Coley analyzes the eyes, brows, forehead and hairline to determine the appropriate procedure and incision placement. He discusses the medical history of the patient as well as expectations and desired improvements.  In order to achieve the best result, Dr. Coley may recommend combining a brow lift surgery with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, facelift or Botox injections.

During Surgery

Brow lift surgery is an outpatient procedure and commonly takes from one to two hours, depending upon the complexity of the case.

Understanding the Recovery

After surgery, a turban-type head dressing may be placed that is removed in the office the next day. The discomfort following a brow lift  is usually minimal and is managed with oral medications. Stitches and/or staples are removed about five to six days following surgery and involve little discomfort. During the recovery period, Dr. Coley provides specific instructions to reduce the swelling and bruising that may occur. Certain activities are restricted to protect the healing tissues.

Understanding the Results

Since the healing process is gradual, the best results can be expected from three to six months after surgery. A brow lift reduces the tired, worried or angry expression often created by aging. Patients are usually very happy with their results for many years.
